治标或治本?

Hearing with the stethoscope.
Sensing of the pulse.

Several timely incidents happened recently, including a discussion centred around the title (Cure symptoms or roots?) led by Huey Yei, and a bout of mild sickness, which inspired this post (please bear with my personal rant for the first part, there is a meaning to it and as you’d expect by now, some of our articles have deep meanings):

My body immunity was likely low over the past week, as i felt exhausted and low in energy. Before i knew it, i caught the flu bug. Overnight, my airways got congested, and i woke up with a full-blown flu, complete with blocked nose, laryngitis, headache, temperature running high, and lethargy.

The first thing i did upon waking up was to Clear my nose of Voluminous Mucus and Expel from my throat Masses of Consolidated Dark Green Phlegm. In short, i cleared as much foreign bodies from my body as possible. Arh… Immediately felt much better.

i then went to take remedial stuff – for me, honey water, healthy food and sleep works. i did these, and it encouraged healing in my body. i also felt very cold and thus proceeded to cover myself with a thick blanket while i rested. My body sweated within the hot conditions and i felt uncomfortable. But i know from experience that after the sweat, my body will recover. No Panadol, no “medication”. Within 24 hours, i was up and about, fresh. No more high temperature, symptoms reduced by 80%. Shiok. Ready to charge on a healthier body.

Now, why am i sharing this stale and boring biological process?

Because amidst my sickness i read an article which immediately reminded me of this picture created in 2009.

So what is that article?

i encourage you to read this article in its entirety, and instead of being drawn into the wrong question, solving the wrong symptoms, and possibly stopping a body from recovering to healthy status and thus healthy long-term growth in hope that there might be “dead horses” that might magically spring back to life, i would like to ask the following:

What is required to double the number of high-quality listed businesses in any economy?

How will any economy’s vibrancy, its’ human participants’ lives, and the underlying strength of said economy change due to the doubling of said high-quality businesses?

Perhaps as Huey Yei wrote a few days back, sometimes we need to give up something in order to move forward. Give up, in a philosophical sense, meaning to detach from an attachment. In said human biological observation, to willingly detach from the pain and suffering in order to be healthier and move forward. By giving up an addiction to short term apparent results, maybe said economy have a possibility of moving forward.

Truly, possible is all we need.

That is the underlying spirit of a particular founding entrepreneurial leadership amidst even greater difficulties and murkier waters.

Some short-term solutions were needed then but has inflamed the collective for far too long and is no longer healthy to go forward.

当然是治标和治本。

We must grow forward.

P.S. Of course, in that biological recovery period, humans can also choose to continue an unhealthy diet, to sleep less, to expose to cold wind, to not expel the foreign bodies from their biological system. Said humans just have to bear the long-term consequences.
